2013 Gettysburg Campout

The troop held a campout at Gettysburg during Columbus Day Weekend, October 12-14. Tyler, Bobby, John, Jeff, Matt, Matt, Mario, Jake, Josh, Dominic, Josh, Tim, and Vince were participating scouts on the campout. Rick Galassi, Dave Minner, Steve Vituszynski, Ken Srebro, Jeff Allan, and Frank Klassner, Jr., were adult leaders on the trip. Our trip happened during a national park shutdown during a congressional budget delay, so we couldn't go on hiking trails in the national park. We also had a fair bit of rain on Saturday. But none of that kept us from hiking through Gettysburg and checking out the Visitors Center and its Gettysburg Cyclorama display (a huge painting of Pickett's Charge wrapped 360 degrees around an amphitheater). On the town hike we saw a building whose wall was still marked by bullet holes from the battle of Gettysburg. We also took a bus tour of the area, and were surprised to learn that our driver was originally from Dunmore! When we weren't cooking in our campsite, we visited the Gettysburg Wax Museum and the Gettysburg Diorama Home, which showed us through light shows on a huge diorama how the battle was fought over the three days of July 1-3, 1863.
