1965 Coal Streams District Winter Camporee
1965 Coal Streams Operation Survival Patch
Prior to the 1961 merger of the Mid-Valley and Dan Beard councils, Troop 21 did most of its winter camping at Camp Edward - the Mid-Valley Council's camp. In 1965 our troop visited Goose Pond Scout Reservation for the Coal Streams District's Winter Camporee, January 16-17. The theme was "Operation Survival," and it was quite an adventure. The temperatures plummeted to 21 degrees below zero Farenheit! Veterans of the campout told stories of cracking open eggs for morning breakfast, only to find the yolk and whites frozen solid! Based on the lean-to in the background of the last picture, we believe the campout was held in the Capouse campsite. The picture of the patch above and the neckerchief picture below were supplied courtesy of Ron Kordish.
